The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that “Child labour, in its intolerable forms, constitutes a kind of violence that is less obvious than others but it is not for this reason any less terrible". The church’s social doctrine states that this child exploitation is a serious violation of a person’s dignity no matter how small or uninvolved they seem to society. Catholic social teaching tells us that we should live in a fair society.
The children being involved in this child labour goes against the church's Catholic social teachings of life and dignity of the human person and option for the poor and vulnerable. Life and dignity of the human person is human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. Option for the poor and vulnerable is about a basic moral test is how our most vulnerable members are faring. These catholic social teachings are about protecting and helping people that need the most help. These catholic social teachings are also about how every human life is sacred no matter where you live, what your job is or how much money you have.
This also goes against the church’s teaching of the common good. The common good refers to the good of all the within the community. The use of children for others benefit is misusing the creation God has created. Child labour also goes against the catholic social teaching of the dignity of work and the rights of workers which is if the dignity of work is to be protected, then the basic rights of workers must be respected. The right to productive work, to decent and fair wages, to the organization and joining of unions, to private property, and to economic initiative.
The Catholic church is against Child labour. "All children must be able to play, study, pray and grow, in their families, this in a harmonic context, in love and serenity but these people instead of playing are slaves, and this is a plague." The catholic church's opinion on child labour is that it is a bad thing because it is children working all day and sometimes all night instead of going to school and having an education and being outside playing and leaning and making friends. The catholic church also thinks that child labour takes away the childhood of many children so we should all try to help and do what we can to reduce or stop child labour.
